Vamos a Madrid! A Cozy November Escape to Spain’s Capital

In November 2022, we had the chance to visit Madrid for the first time. The weather was just right for exploring—crisp and sunny during the day with a light chill in the evenings. Over a few days, we discovered great food, interesting sights, and plenty of charm. Here’s a simple recap of our trip.

Where we stayed

We stayed at Espahotel Gran Via, close by the Plaza de Espana. It was a comfortable and convenient base for the trip—nothing overly luxurious, but it had all the essentials. The location couldn’t have been better; everything we wanted to see was within walking distance.

Places to Eat

Madrid is a city that knows how to eat well, and I made sure to enjoy as much of the local food scene as I could:

  • Eat my Trip Breakfast & Brunch: The best brunch ever, period! I will let the photos speak for themselves.
  • TwentyNine’s Madrid: A lively American cuisine style restaurant where we tried a some good burgers while we watched the Mexico vs Poland game during the world cup.
  • Salvador Bachiller: This is actually a Leather Goods Store which was right next to our hotel, however downstairs you will find a beautiful restaurant with awesome decorations. If I recall, we ate a small salad coupled with the one of the best peppermint teas I ever tried anywhere!
  • Alduccio Restaurante: A nice Italian restaurant right next to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Things to Do

There’s so much to see in Madrid, but these were my highlights:

  • Royal Palace of Madrid: The grandeur of the palace was amazing. I joined a guided tour to learn more about its history and to see some of its most stunning rooms.
  • Museo Naval de Madrid: The grandeur of the palace was amazing. I joined a guided tour to learn more about its history and to see some of its most stunning rooms.
  • Santiago Bernabeu Stadium: During our stay, the stadium was being renovated, but it was still one of the top spots.
  • Gran Vía: This vibrant street was great for strolling and shopping while admiring the buildings and experiencing the vibe of the capital.
  • Retiro Park: A lovely spot to relax and take a break from the city streets. The lake, the Crystal Palace, and the autumn colors made for a peaceful afternoon stroll.

Final Thoughts

Madrid in November was a cozy and welcoming destination with perfect weather for exploring and not very crowded streets. Whether you’re into art, food, or just wandering through lively streets, Madrid has something special to offer. It’s a place we’d happily visit again.
