As our time in Prague was coming to an end, we made the most of our final day by exploring more of the city’s history, culture, and charm. After the last conference day which concluded with a short Q&A session, we set out to visit some incredible landmarks, including the famous Dancing House, before heading to the next leg of our Central European adventure.
Exploring Vyšehrad
Our first stop was Vyšehrad, an ancient fort that provided stunning panoramic views of the city. The weather was a mix of cloudy but sunny skies. Perched above the Vltava River, the historic site offered a peaceful retreat away from the bustling Old Town. We wandered through the castle ruins, admired the breathtaking architecture of St. Peter and Paul Church, and strolled through the Vyšehrad Gardens, taking in the tranquil atmosphere and impressive sculptures. The entire area had a different, more relaxed charm compared to other historic sites in Prague, even the Dancing House.
Lunch at U Kroka
For lunch, we stopped by at U Kroka, a cozy and highly recommended restaurant known for its authentic Czech cuisine. The meal was fantastic, offering the perfect balance of flavors that showcased the best of Prague’s traditional dishes. The friendly service and welcoming atmosphere made our experience even more enjoyable, providing a much-needed break before our afternoon exploration which included the Dancing House.
A Visit to St. Cyril & Methodius Cathedral: Heydrich Terror Memorial
After lunch, we visited the St. Cyril & Methodius Cathedral, home to the Heydrich Terror Memorial. This somber yet deeply significant site commemorates the brave Czech paratroopers involved in Operation Anthropoid, the mission to assassinate high-ranking Nazi officer Reinhard Heydrich. Standing in the crypt where they made their last stand was a powerful and emotional experience, reminding us of the city’s resilience and courage during WWII.

A Walk Past the Dancing House
On our way back, we walked past the iconic Dancing House, one of Prague’s most distinctive modern architectural landmarks. The fluid, curving design of the building stood in striking contrast to the city’s historical surroundings, making it a unique sight to see. Though we didn’t go inside, simply admiring it from the outside was a great addition to our walk through the city.

An Afternoon at Nový Smíchov Shopping Center
That afternoon, my fiancée (now wife) and I decided to take a break from sightseeing and enjoy a relaxing movie at the Nový Smíchov Shopping Center Cinema. We watched Creed III, which was an exciting and entertaining way to unwind, however, there is a funny story to tell here. There were some key moments during the film where the characters were communicating via sign language and we didn’t understand what they were saying since the credits were in Czech. After the movie, we cruised around a bit through the modern shopping center. If I recall, we purchased some coats, socks, chocolate and souvenirs, with the Dancing House still on our minds.
A Missed Opportunity at Speculum Alchemiae
One place we were eager to visit was Speculum Alchemiae, a historical alchemy laboratory hidden beneath Prague’s streets. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we found that it had just closed. It was disappointing to miss out on such a fascinating attraction, but we made a note to return on a future visit.

A Final Walk Through Old Town
As the evening set in, we took one last leisurely walk through Old Town Prague, reminiscing about everything we had experienced over the past few days. The illuminated streets, lively atmosphere, and historical charm made for a perfect farewell to the city. Prague had given us unforgettable memories, and we were grateful for every moment spent exploring its wonders, including the architectural marvel, the Dancing House.

Next Stop: Budapest
With our time in Prague coming to an end, we packed our bags and prepared for the next chapter of our Central European journey—Budapest. Stay tuned for the next part of our adventure as we uncover the beauty and history of Hungary’s vibrant capital.
